This unique Canary Island Heritage tour is customized for passionate Canary Island descendants interested in learning about their heritage in the Canary Islands. 

 

We have planned every detail so you can travel in a relaxed, joyful, and worry-free environment. There will be special dinners
and activities for you to enjoy at a leisurely pace.

-We’ve planned this trip for October, avoiding peak tourist season and enjoying beautiful spring weather.
-We will stay in 2 hotels during our stay.
-You will have some leisure time on your own to stroll the historic towns, have a coffee or a nice meal.
-Most mornings we will leave the hotel around 8:30 AM so you are not too rushed.

Arrival at the airport of Gran Canaria, waiting to know the arrival time. Transfer to the hotel in Agüimes Dinner in Agüimes around 7:00 p.m.

Canary Island Heritage Tour Day 3

October 23, 2021 - Saturday 

GRAN CANARIA

Breakfast at 8:30 
Departure to Las Palmas at 9:30 
 Meeting at the archives at 10:00 
12:00 pm Vegueta-Triana lunch 

13:00 Visit the old town of Vegueta.  Here we will visit the Columbus Museum, the Cathedral, and its tower and enjoy this beautiful city.
Until 17:30 visit to the main street of Triana, traditional shopping area. 
Return to Agüimes. 
Dinner at Agüimes at 7:00 p.m.

Today we will visit the beautiful city of Las Palmas, the sister city of San Antonio, Texas, where we will visit the Torre Cathedral, the Canary Museum and the House of Columbus in the morning.
We will visit the archives and have an opportunity to learn more about our family history and do some genealogy research.  We will have lunch in the old town city of Vegueta and Triana quarters and enjoy the area after lunch. In Triana, you can take in the sites of its beautiful architecture, shop, or enjoy a coffee in at a cafe.

Canary Island Heritage Tour Day 4

October 24, 2021, Sunday

GRAN CANARIA

We will visit Tirajana and Costa Maspalomas. After breakfast, we will go to Temisas, Santa Lucía de Tirajana, San Bartolomé de Tirajana, all in the Caldera de Tirajana. Then we will go to the coast through Fataga ravine, to end up in the touristic area of Maspalomas, with some of the most iconic dune fields and beaches in the Canary Islands. We will visit the archaeological site at La Fortaleza and enjoy lunch on a panoramic terrace overlooking Tirajana Valley in Santa Lucia.  We will also stop to see the beautiful Temisas village along the way for a short walk around the city to enjoy its archeological significance.

We will enjoy a cooking demonstration learning to cook a local favorite Papas arrugadas con Mojo which is the most typical tapas in the Canaries.

10:00 Walking Temisas and soft hike towards the archaeological site of Cuevas de la Audiencia and Cuevas del Gigante

8:30 Breakfast at the hotel
9:30 p.m. through the Villa de Agüimes 
11:00 meeting with the genealogists: Faneque Hernández, Juan Ramón García, Felipe Enrique Martín Santiago, ... 
13:00 transfer to Barranco de Guayadeque, lunch
16:00 visit to La Villa de Ingenio and El Carrizal 
18:30 return to the Villa de Agüimes 
19:00 dinner in Agüimes.

Today we will take a walking tour through Agüimes, the hometown of many of our ancestors. After our walking tour, we will meet with genealogists, Faneque Hernández, Juan Ramón García, Felipe Enrique Martín Santiago where we will have the opportunity to do research and learn more about our ancestors.   If you have ancestors you would like to research, please let us know the names ahead of time.  We cannot promise you will find what you are looking for, but the search is always fun.

 

We will have lunch in a picturesque location. It is a ravine located by the village, with very few cave dwellings, lovely to see) Barranco de Guayadeque where locals live in modern cave dwellings along the ravine. We will take a short walk to enjoy the vistas, natural history as well as human history and perhaps meet some of the locals living here. Perfecto :)

After this, we will visit the villages of Ingenio and El Carrizal.

9:30 departure to the Vega de San Mateo. We will visit the agricultural market. 
12:00 to 13:00 departure to Bandama wine area and panoramic visit.  
1:00 pm Visit Arehucas local rum distillery 
14:00 to 16:00 Lunch at Arucas 

16:30 to 17:30 Visit Arucas emblematic Village 
17:30 pm return to Agüimes 
7:00 pm dinner at Agüimes

October 27, 2021, Wednesday  

GRAN CANARIA

8:30 breakfast at the hotel

9:30 departure towards the highest point of the island (1:45 bus drive including one viewpoint stop). About half an hour atop the highest point of the island to enjoy the vistas.

 12:00 scenic drive to admire Roque Nublo and Bentayga. Several viewpoints stop. Possibility to walk Bentayga archaeological site (1h hike, a bit steep and uneven terrain, but not difficult; included in Gran Canaria Unesco´s Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage designation)  

 14:00 pm Lunch Tejeda

15:30 Visit Tejeda Village (considered to be one of the most beautiful villages in Spain)

16:30 Start the way back to the hotel

18:30 arrive at the hotel

An optional excursion today is Whale watching in the morning and sunset and Stargazing at the mountains in the evening.

If you would like to visit one of the other islands to visit your ancestral home town, and it is possible to get there by ferry, I would be able to make arrangements for you.  This would be an additional charge for the ferry ride and for a private tour guide.

November 1, 2021, Monday 

TENERIFE

 
8:30 breakfast at the Nivaria hotel
9:30 am a departure to the Teide National Park.
11:30 optional climb in the Teide cable car to the highest peak in Spain, 3718 meters. Because of their altitude, those who have tension problems or suffer altitude sickness should not climb. To go up and have dizziness and vomiting, the only remedy is to go back down from altitude.
Those who do not climb will appreciate the beauty of the Ucanca Valley.
Lunch about 2:00 on the way.
Bring sun creams, sunglasses, and hats.
Return to La Laguna around 5:00 p.m.
Dinner at the hotel at 7:00 p.m
